Jambalaya Recipe Ingredients

  • 2 Tbs. of butter OR margarine
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 1 Pablano pepper (chopped finely)
  • 12-16 oz. smoked sausage, Andouille sausage, OR Kielbasa (cut into small pieces)
  • 8 oz. frozen salad shrimp
  • 14-oz. can chicken broth
  • 14.5-oz. can diced tomatoes
  • 8-oz. can tomato sauce
  • 3/4 cup instant rice (uncooked)
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. thyme
  • 1 garlic clove (finely minced) OR 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/8 tsp. black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1 bay leaf

 

Jambalaya Recipe Directions

I typically make this jambalaya recipe in a large pot.

 

1. Saute Ingredients

After cutting up the ingredients, you will saute the onion, Pablano pepper, garlic clove, and spices in the melted butter (or margarine).

Saute them until they are soft.

 

2. Add more ingredients

After you are done sauteing, you will add the chicken broth.

 

3. Add the rest of the ingredients

Thaw out the frozen shrimp, and add it to the pot along with the rest of the ingredients.

Simmer jambalaya for 30 minutes.

Remove bay leaf before serving!

 

4. Serve!

  • 8 ounce can of tomato sauce
  • 3/4 cup instant rice (uncooked)
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 clove garlic (finely minced or 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder)
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 bay leaf

Instructions
 

  • Saute chopped onion, Pablano pepper, garlic, and spices in melted butter (or margarine).
  • Add chicken broth.
  • Thaw shrimp, then add along with the other ingredients.
  • Simmer for 30 minutes and remove bay leaf.
