#1 — Visit antique stores

A lot of antique stores have sales this time of year. If you’re looking for unique and affordable gifts, you can find them at antique stores.

Even if you’re not shopping for antiques, you still have a good chance of finding something cool. Vendors often have stuff that isn’t that old but still makes a good gift.

Just walking around an antique store gives me ideas for presents. Sometimes I will see something I forgot existed.

#2 — Sell on eBay

If you’re looking to make some extra money for Christmas, consider selling items on eBay.

This is the time of the year when I am able to sell the most items and get the highest prices for them.

If you have never sold items on eBay, you can read our Beginner’s Guide to eBay. We also have quite of few other posts about selling on eBay if you need some tips.

#3 — Making gifts

DIY gifts can be a great way to save money and give something meaningful at the same time.

If you are thinking about creating a DIY gift for someone this year, now is a great time to get started. You won’t feel as rushed to get it made if you start now, and then your gift won’t look hurried.

#4 — Visit craft shows

Many unique gifts can be found at craft shows. These gifts can be very affordable and special.

Lots of times schools and other places in your city will have craft shows to raise money.

#5 — Watch for special sales

This time of year, there are often special sales.

A nation-wide department store had 20% off your total order for two days only. I don’t typically see sales like this during the rest of the year.

Check to see if your favorite stores are having any special sales because you can save a lot of money on gifts with these deals.

#6 — Use cashback giving apps and websites

One way to save some money on all your Christmas purchases is to use cashback apps. Another way is to install Google Chrome extensions to your browser that earn you cashback or give you discount codes for your purchases.

Christmas savings from cashback apps

Ibotta

My favorite cashback app is Ibotta. Ibotta gives you cashback on purchases from all sorts of stores including grocery stores!

Sign up for Ibotta for free! There’s no reason not to download the Ibotta app because you will save lots of money at no extra cost to you!

You can use our link or referral code (asljnam) to get started.

Other Cashback Apps

Some other cashback apps you should try are Checkout 51 and Fetch Rewards.

Sign up for Fetch Rewards using our code to get bonus points added to your account! Our code is 46NDN.

I haven’t used these apps as much, but you can earn cashback on your purchases in a similar way to Ibotta when you use these free apps.

Christmas savings from Google Chrome extensions

Rakuten

Formerly known as Ebates, Rakuten is a website that gives you cashback on purchases from hundreds of websites.

I installed the Google Chrome extension for Rakuten on my browser. Every time I visit a site that can earn cashback, the Rakuten extension will remind me of how much cashback I can earn.

Sign up for Rakuten for free and receive a welcome bonus of $10 after you spend $25!

Honey

This is another extension that you can install. Honey helps you find promo codes for whatever site you are on.

You can also earn cashback from Honey.

One nice thing that Honey does is that it shows you on Amazon if you can find a better price from another site.

Sign up for free to use this extension!

Wikibuy

This extension is very similar to Honey.

It will also find you promo codes, compare prices on Amazon to other sites, and earn you points to redeem gift cards.

#7 — Take advantage of special coupons

We have mentioned before about JC Penney having a $10 off of $10 or more coupon.

Recently, Kohl’s had a $10 off of $10 coupon with no brand restrictions. I used it on just one item that was close to the $10 price.

There are other stores that offer similar coupons or deals, so pay attention for more of these deals this Christmas season.

To save money, make sure you don’t buy a bunch of other things while you’re in the store.

#8 — Start shopping now if you shop online

If you like to shop at websites such as eBay or Etsy, now is the time to start shopping.

This gives you the best selection of items. To closer to Christmas, the harder it is to find affordable items online.

#9 — Take advantage of Black Friday deals at smaller stores

If you plan on shopping on Black Friday and aren’t looking for anything specific, consider shopping at a small store having a sale.

Last year, I went to a local drugstore that has a section with unique gifts. They had the slip-on kind of slippers that are fleece-lined with soft soles buy 1 get 1 free. They were $10 a pair, so it made them pretty cheap. The slippers were well-made with many different sizes and prints available.

#10 — Give alternative gifts

Instead of giving everyone lots of gifts this year, consider an alternative gift exchange.

Ideas such as white elephant gift exchanges, vacations, and more are some great alternatives to regular gifts.

Check out our post about several different gift exchange ideas for Christmas this year.
