DIY Harry Potter Ornament Supplies
- felt
- fabric glue
- scissors
- stuffing (I used the inside of an old pillow)
- thread & needle
- thin cord, fishing line, or a ribbon (to hang the ornaments by)
- a pattern to trace on the felt (mine looks like a gingerbread man)
- photo fabric OR photo transfer paper and white material (a sheet or pillowcase will work)
DIY Harry Potter Ornament Instructions
I made my ornaments into Harry Potter characters because they were a gift for a Harry Potter fan.
I found pictures online for the faces of the ornaments, but you can use any pictures you have on your computer.
Step 1: Find & print pictures
I printed pictures of each character to use for their face. You only need the images of their faces not their whole bodies.
Then, I used photo transfer paper to iron the pictures onto white material.
If you want, you can purchase photo fabric instead. Photo fabric can go right into your printer like paper. Then, you peel the backing off to leave a piece of fabric with a photo on it.
Step 2: Cut out the faces
After printing my character faces, I cut them out and set them aside.
You will attach them to their bodies later.
Step 3: Create the bodies
Next, I traced the bodies of the characters with my pattern onto felt.
Most of them I made the same size with a few exceptions (like Hagrid).
I cut 2 of each body and stitched around the outside.
I left an opening that I could stuff and then sewed it closed.
Step 4: Attach the faces, hair, & clothes
After the bodies are finished, I then glued the faces onto the bodies.
I cut out hair for the back of the heads and clothes using my pattern on the felt.
These items I sewed directly onto the bodies.
You can make them as plain or ornate as you want them to be.
For tiny pieces of clothing such as a tie, I used permanent markers on a colored piece of felt.
Step 5: Add the hangers
The last thing to do is to add a hanger to hang it on your tree.
This can be a thin piece of cord or a ribbon.
If you don’t want people to see it when it’s hanging, you can use fishing line.
