Beauty Tips for Skin #1 — Wash Your Pillowcase
An easy thing that you can do every week is to wash your pillowcase.
Whether you shower in the morning or night, your pillowcase collects germs, dirt, and oil.
If you wash your pillowcase more frequently, then you help prevent all of that stuff from getting onto your face.
If you have oily skin or acne-prone skin, this is especially important because the dirt and oil will cause your face to break out more and appear oilier.
Beauty Tips for Skin #2 — Clean Your Makeup Brushes
If you wear any makeup, then you probably use some sort of makeup brushes, sponges, or applicators.
Makeup brushes collect makeup residue, oil, and dirt.
Depending on how often you wear makeup, you should clean your makeup brushes regularly.
If I wear makeup every day, I try to wash my makeup brushes at least every 2 weeks. If you use a brush to apply foundation, you will probably want to wash that brush more often.
Try to get into a regular routine of washing your brushes.
How to clean your makeup brushes
It is really easy to clean them. All I use is baby shampoo and warm water.
First, I lay out all my brushes on the counter of my sink.
Then, I run the brush head under warm water while I use my fingers (that are clean!) to get as much makeup out as possible.
Next, I add a tiny bit of baby shampoo to the brush and massage it in to get rid of the rest of the makeup and dirt.
Make sure you wash out all the shampoo.
Then, I squeeze out any excess water and lay the brush on a towel to dry.
I typically do this right after I put on makeup for the day because I let the brushes dry for an entire day before using them again.
Beauty Tips for Skin #3 — Drink Water
Besides the numerous health benefits, drinking water is an easy way to get healthier skin.
Water hydrates you skin and gives it a healthy glow.
I typically try to drink four bottles of water a day (about 72 ounces). Some days I drink more if it’s hotter outside.
Also, it is very important to drink enough water even when you are not sweating a lot. Sometimes it’s harder for me to want to drink water if I’m cold, but it is super easy to get dehydrated when it is dry and cold out.
Beauty Tips for Skin #4 — Have a Healthy Diet
One of the main causes for skin issues like acne and extra oil is eating sugary foods or fried foods. Some people also break out a lot if they eat or drink too much dairy.
It’s important to learn what causes your skin to have issues.
I know that if I eat too much sugar I break out, but sugar isn’t always the case. There are also a lot of other factors that contribute to skin issues like hormones.
If you have a lot of acne, try lessening the amount of sugar, the amount of fried foods, or the amount of dairy you intake.
You don’t have to completely get rid of certain food group to make the problem lesson or go away completely.
Beauty Tips for Skin #5 — Remove Makeup Before Bed
Removing any makeup before you go to bed is very important for healthy skin.
Even though I take showers at night, I still remove my makeup before taking a shower.
You can use makeup remover wipes, but I like to use Garnier Micellar water because it’s gentle and more affordable.
Beauty Tips for Skin #6 — Clean Your Phone
If you use your phone a lot, then there are tons of germs out it.
When you touch your phone to your face or touch your face with your hands after using your phone, you are getting oil, dirt, and germs on your face.
By sanitizing your phone, you keep those pollutants away from your skin.
Use a damp cloth to wipe off your phone (including the screen). Make sure you aren’t using a really wet cloth because you don’t want to damage your phone.
Depending on the type of case you have, you could also use a disinfectant wipe to clean the germs from your case.
Beauty Tips for Skin #7 — Exfoliate Your Face
Exfoliating your face is important in order to get rid of dead skin cells.
You can use an exfoliating scrub a couple times a week, but you shouldn’t use it too much. It can damage your skin if you use it too often.
I sometimes use a scrub on my face, but I typically just use a washrag to gently exfoliate my face it the shower.
You should exfoliate with something appropriate for your skin type.
If you have sensitive skin, you need to be careful to not be too rough.
You can buy exfoliating brushes that help remove the dead skin from your face.
I also like to exfoliate my lips regularly to keep them smooth.
You can use your toothbrush to exfoliate your lips after you brush your teeth (just make sure you have rinsed all the toothpaste off of your brush first!).
I also sometimes use lip scrubs because they work a little bit better.
I really like the lip scrub Seraphine Botanicals Orange Lip Polish.
Beauty Tips for Skin #8 — Makeup-Free Days
One really easy way to get healthier skin is to skip wearing makeup sometimes.
Over the past year, I have become more comfortable going without makeup.
I still enjoy wearing makeup, but I don’t have to put any on to go out in public.
If you make it a habit to go at least once a week without wearing makeup, it gives your skin a chance to breathe.
Makeup tends to clog your pores, but having a makeup-free day helps keep your pores clean.
If you are uncomfortable going without makeup, try wearing less one day a week.
Beauty Tips for Skin #9 — Face Masks
I started using face masks a couple years ago, and I really like how they make my skin look and feel.
There are so many different types of face masks that you can get depending on your skin type and what you are looking to get out of it.
I have tried three different types: sheet masks, peel-off masks, and washable masks.
Sheet masks are one-time-use masks that come in a package. You just lay the mask on your face and rub in the remaining product when you are done.
I have oily skin, and all the sheet masks that I have tried so far have left my face a bit shiny. My skin does look better after I use one though.
If you have dry skin, I would definitely recommend that you try a sheet mask.
I have only tried two different peel-off masks, but I liked both of them.
They are easy to use because once you apply the product to your face, you just have to wait so long before you can peel it all off.
I have found that peel-off masks help remove a lot of the gunk from my face, which is one reason that I like them so much.
These are the products that you apply to your face with your fingers or a brush. After waiting so long, you wash it off with water.
This is the messiest type of mask, but they really do help make your skin feel softer and cleaner among other things.
The key to using face masks is to find ones that suit your needs. Each mask tells you exactly what it will do for your skin.
Most of the ones that I have tried have come in my Ipsy makeup subscription.
Beauty Tips for Skin #10 — Don’t Touch Your Face
You would be amazed how dirty your skin gets because of how often you touch your face!
Throughout the day, you touch so many things that have dirt and germs on them, not to mention the natural oil your skin produces.
When you touch your face a lot, all that dirt and germs ends up on your face.
One way to help this problem is to lessen the amount of time you spend touching your face.
To do this, you have to make a conscious effort to keep your hands away from your face.
I find that I often rest my hand against my chin without even thinking about it.
If you are tempted to touch your face, it is helpful to keep your hands busy. This just means that you can make yourself hold something, or you could put your hands in your pockets.
Another way to help this problem is to make sure to wash your hands more often.
If you choose to do this, make sure you aren’t over-washing your hands because then your skin will dry out.
