1. Go to Open Houses
In the area where I live, Sunday is a day where realties tend to have open houses. These are usually in the afternoon between 12-4 p.m.
Before we had children, my husband and I used to go to open houses even though we already owned a house.
We usually went to houses in our neighborhood, but you could go to any open house in your city.
We wanted to see what we would need to do to our own house if we ever wanted to sell it, and we also liked to see if we would ever want to move to another house.
Even if you aren’t looking to purchase your own home, going to open houses can be fun.
You get to see what other homes look like, and you can even get ideas for things you could do to your own home.
2. Sample Taste Test
For Christmas, I received a box of candy from Trader Joe’s called Taste Test of Caramels that had 12 pieces of chocolate inside. You were supposed to cut each piece into fourths and then sample each piece. After you ate each piece, you had to write down what you thought it tasted like and whether or not you liked it. After that, you could look at a list of possible flavors and guess which piece was which. The answers were on the bottom of the box.
Taste testing these chocolates got me thinking about how you could do that with other foods like cheese.
You could make it into a game for you and your date.
3. Go for a Drive
When I was a kid, my parents used to go for a drive out in the country at least once a week.
My husband and I occasionally drive into certain neighborhoods just to look at the architecture of different houses.
It is also nice to drive in the country in the fall to see the pretty colors of the leaves.
If you’re somewhat new to an area, this is a great way to explore the different parts of town.
4. Cooking or Baking
You can always make a date out of cooking a special meal together.
It is a great time to try out a new recipe or something a little fancier than what you normally eat.
You can also have fun baking something together like cookies or a cake. You can even decorate the cookies or cake together.
5. Picnic
Going on a picnic can be a fun date.
If you are up to it, you could hike to a nice spot and then eat when you get there.
It could be by a relaxing lake, in the mountains, or even at your local park.
You can even bring along a Frisbee and make your own disc golf course.
6. Make a Puzzle
Jigsaw puzzles are a great way to spend time together.
My husband and I like to make puzzles so that we can talk and not be distracted.
Some good puzzle brands are Charles Wysocki and Hometown.
You can buy used puzzles at resale shops and garage sales.
Or, you can buy puzzles online at places like eBay and Amazon.

8. Bike, Walk, or Rollerblade
If you want to exercise on your date, then go for a walk, ride a bike, or go skating.
Try out a local trail or just stay in your neighborhood.
9. Train Ride
The first time I ever rode on a train was in fourth grade. We only rode 40 minutes away to visit a factory, but it was a lot of fun.
Train tickets can be relatively inexpensive.
You could ride to a nearby city just to have lunch or walk around to shops.
Be sure to look ahead of time to see what is in the area of where you will be going.
10. Visit an Antique Store
Even if we never buy much (or nothing), it is fun to go and look around an antique store.
It is fun to reminisce about things that your grandparents or parents used to have.
It is also fun just to see things that you never knew existed.
